Aesthetics
In striving to complement the sleek contours of contemporary off-road vehicles, Gobi-X Expedition Gear has opted for fiberglass moulding to craft this aerodynamically shaped clamshell roof top tent.
Clam Shell Design
Clamshell tents offer several key advantages. Firstly, their simple opening and closing mechanism allows for effortless operation by a single person. Secondly, the robust hard case ensures secure and dry storage for your bedding while on the move. Equipped with two poly handles for easy handling, the shell also features two heavy-duty lockable throw-over catches to further enhance security.
Glass Fibre Layering Process
Employing state-of-the-art vacuum infusion techniques, we’ve successfully integrated a high-performance Ultragel 64 Gelcoat with a four-layer blend of Biaxial and Woven glass fabric, along with MYcell M closed-cell cross-linked PVC foam. This amalgamation delivers a lightweight, UV-resistant product capable of enduring the rugged conditions encountered in the African bush.
Canvas
We have opted for a 300gsm Acrylic Treat Polyester Ripstop canvass for the tent and 235gsm UV treated rubberised netting for the windows. The ripstop canvass is UV,water and fungal resistant. Our full zipped doors and windows are some of the biggest in the industry which suit the hot African climate well. These allow ample airflow while keeping the bugs out at night.
Mattress
Our tents are supplied with a canvass covered high density 75mm thick foam mattress. The 75mm thickness chosen for these mattresses ensures superior comfort providing a great night’s sleep in the bush.
Ladder
Telescopic lappers are supplied with our Tankwa tents and these mount to the vehicle using our spring-loaded ladder lock bracket. Being able to vary the length of the ladder means camping on uneven ground is no problem. Simply extend or retract the ladder to suit the terrain and vehicle height. Our ladders are supplied with a top-quality canvass ladder bag which ensures a clean tent when storing the ladder inside.
